What a tense week that was given the India-Pakistan conflict!
So much so that product, design and tech news hardly mattered.
We had Figma dropping tonnes of updates and there was barely a whisper in the Indian product and design community.
We’ll come to Figma next week, but for now we’d like to draw your attention to Zomato… and its results

The Great Zomato Reset
Remember when Zomato promised food in 10 minutes? Well, that dream just quietly died.
Zomato — now rebranded as Eternal — has shut down its 'Quick' delivery service. And while that alone would’ve made headlines, what followed was even more drastic: the company delisted nearly 19,000 restaurants from its platform.
No press conference. No drama. Just a quiet purge.
At first glance, this feels like a cost-cutting move. But look closer, and it’s something else entirely.
In a recent update, CEO Deepinder Goyal was candid:
“We are actually shutting down both these initiatives (Zomato Quick and Everyday) as we are not seeing the path to profitability in these without compromising on customer experience.”
Turns out, the model was fundamentally flawed. The existing restaurant density and kitchen infrastructure simply couldn’t support 10-minute delivery. And when that leads to inconsistent experiences, even aggressive logistics can’t save the day.
You can’t rush paneer butter masala without compromising taste, safety, or sanity.
In a way, this marks a shift.
From “what can we add?” to “what should we remove?”
And if you zoom out, it’s a reminder that platforms, like products, need pruning. Especially when scale starts to look like clutter.
